Welcome
Welcome one and all. I am Seth Schumacher, also called Osprey when in the company of the thru-hiking community. This blog contains the journal entries from my hikes of the 3 major National Scenic Trails of the United States. These are the Appalachian Trail, Continental Divide Trail, and the Pacific Crest Trail. You may also find random ramblings of mine here and there, but everyone learns to ramble to themselves when in the middle of 2000+mile hikes. Sometimes we just need to get them down.Please feel free to respond to any or all of the entries you find here. 2007 Appalachian Trail
Hi Seth,
I enjoy your updates and would be glad to meet you near Reed’s Gap, Tye River or Afton (Interstate 64) where the trail crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway and there is a big hotel with a restaurant with a beautiful view on the top of the hill I could drive you to Waynesboro for supplies or bring you fresh food, and treat you to a resturant meal.
Interstate 56 is at the Tye River which has a long swinging bridge. It is after you have descended the Priest mountain (lucky you don’t have to climb up it!) Also, before the Priest, you don’t wnat to miss Spy Rock! (A great lookout just a few feet off the trail.)
Our Club owns a primitive stone cabin (sleeps 12) 4 miles S. of Reed’s Gap, and I can still hike into there, usually with all my family, including grandkids who love the hiking. It is good to know that you love it, too. I have experienced much trail magic and I wish much for you!

We live in Virginia Beach and I’ll be on the Blue Ridge next weekend. Our Appalachian Trail Club (Tidewater) maintains from Tye River Rt 56 to Reeds Gap and I’ll be at the Trail Club’s cabin.
Like to know if I can bring you supplies or such, or when you’ll be to our section Harpers Creek and Maupin Field Shelters.
